Student membership is limited to a period of three years. You may apply to Council for an extension of Student Membership.
You may apply for New Graduate (First Year Out) Membership if you:
The New Graduate (first year out) Membership Category is for a period of one year commencing from the date of the letter from the Head of Department, or from the date that the degree is conferred, whichever is the earliest.
You may apply to be a New Graduate (Second Year Out) Member if you:
New Graduate (second year out) Membership Category is for one year. You may apply for Full Membership at any time during the one year period.
You may apply to be a Semi-Retired Member of the ASO if you:
Semi-Retired membership is limited to a period of three years. You may reapply to Council for an extension of Semi-Retired Membership for a period of two years. The extension is at the absolute discretion of Council. You may apply for more than one extension.
If you have been a Full Member for ten years or more or you are a Semi-Retired Member you can apply to become a Retired Member provided you have permanently retired from active clinical orthodontic practice.
Practice as defined by the Dental Board of Australia Recency of Practice Registration Standard and means any role, whether remunerated or not, in which the individual uses their skills and knowledge as a health practitioner in their profession. For the purposes of this registration standard, practice is not restricted to the provision of direct clinical care. It also includes using professional knowledge in a direct nonclinical relationship with clients, working in management, administration, education, research, advisory, regulatory or policy development roles, and any other that impact on safe, effective delivery of services in the profession.
You may apply to be an Academic Member of the ASO if you:
A person may become an Honorary Member of the Society in recognition of long or outstanding service to orthodontics by a resolution of members.
You may apply to be an Overseas Member of the ASO if you:

You may apply to be an Overseas Student Member of the ASO if you:
Student membership is limited to a period of three years. You may apply to Council for an extension of Overseas Student Membership.
